چکیده

Abstract For nonmonotonic reasoning in the context of a knowledge base $\mathcal {R}$ R containing conditionals form If A then usually B , system P provides generally accepted axioms. Inference solely based on P, however, is inherently skeptical because it coincides with that takes all ranking models into account. System Z uses only unique minimal model and c-inference, realized via complex constraint satisfaction problem, c-representations C-representations constitute subset are obtained by assigning non-negative integer impacts to each conditional summing up, for every world, falsified world. While c-inference license general different sets desirable entailments, first major objective this article present W . fully captures strictly extends both c-inference. Moreover, can be represented single strict partial order worlds over signature We show exhibits further inference properties worthwhile reasoning, like satisfying axioms respecting indifference, avoiding drowning problem. The other main goal provide results our investigations, underlying development W, upper lower bounds used restrict set have taken account realizing bound n − 1 sufficient capturing respect having if there at least one world verifying In contrast previous conjecture number always sufficient, we prove bases requiring an 2 implying no polynomial assigned

Complexity Results for Default Reasoning from Conditional Knowledge Bases

Conditional knowledge bases have been proposed as belief bases that include defeasible rules (also called defaults) of the form “ ! ”, which informally read as “generally, if then .” Such rules may have exceptions, which can be handled in different ways. A number of entailment semantics for conditional knowledge bases have been proposed in the literature. However, while the semantic properties ...

New Tractable Cases in Default Reasoning from Conditional Knowledge Bases

We present new tractable cases for default reasoning from conditional knowledge bases. In detail, we introduce q-Horn conditional knowledge bases, which allow for a limited use of disjunction. We show that previous tractability results for "-entailment, proper "-entailment, and zand z+-entailment in the Horn case can be extended to the q-Horn case. Moreover, we present feedback-freeHorn conditi...

Abteilung Wissensbasierte Systeme Reasoning about Evolving Nonmonotonic Knowledge Bases

Recently, several approaches to updating knowledge bases modeled as extended logic programs have been introduced, ranging from basic methods to incorporate (sequences of) sets of rules into a logic program, to more elaborate methods which use an update policy for specifying how updates must be incorporated. In this paper, we introduce a framework for reasoning about evolving knowledge bases, wh...

Nonmonotonic Knowledge Bases

Updating databases, and in particular relational databases, is a central issue which has been well-studied in the database field for many years, and solutions have been incorporated into commercial database systems. As for more advanced databases such as logical databases, and in particular for nonmonotonic knowledge bases, work on this problem is more recent. Various approaches for incorporati...
